Job Description

The Principal Scientist, Global Analytical Services is responsible for, under minimal direction and guidance, assisting the management in implementing analytical strategies for the analytical operations. This position will focus on the development and implementation of analytical methods that meet global business objectives including quality and new product development. The incumbent will conduct research based activities to characterize ingredients (actives, raw materials and excipients). This role includes the development, improvement and transfer of analytical methodologies used in the evaluation or characterization of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products, including dietary supplements, nutritional products and nutraceuticals. This role will also involve development and implementation of LIMS to deploy to manufacturing laboratories. This position will mentor senior and junior scientists in routine work. This role will also work within Quality organization to ensure compliance and safety. 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and implement analytical strategies to resolve analytical issues for the global laboratory operations.
  • Develop and implement new analytical methods for raw materials and finished products for new product development.
  • Troubleshoot and modify the existing analytical methods to improve the robustness and accuracy of the methods.
  • Write analytical testing procedures and technical reports.
  • Assist in OOS investigations related to testing methods whenever assigned.
  • Lead and execute method transfers to internal or external laboratories.
  • Participate in development and implementation of LIMS to deploy to manufacturing laboratories as a subject matter expert.
  • Make recommendations to the management regarding areas for development or improvement.
  • Accurately record own data and results in a timely manner and in compliance with appropriate quality standards. As needed, review and provide comments/recommendations on data, protocols and reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist the specifications group with raw material, bulk, and finished good specification development or revisions whenever assigned.
  • Comply with all SOPs and policies on cGMP and safety.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Job Requirements

  • Strong technical expertise in developing and implementing analytical methods, and conducting analytical testing using UPLC, HPLC, GC, ICP, mass spec, and other modern analytical techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of Empower and other instrument software, analytical techniques and their applications to complex analytical and dietary/botanical chemistry problems.
  • Experience in LIMS implementation and operation in lab environment.
  • Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 4 years of experience, or M.S. in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 8 years of experience, or B.S in Analytical Chemistry or related fields with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently and set priorities in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Skillful in experimental design, data creation and collection, and problem solving.
  • Leadership skills with a strong team-work spirit.
  • Good understanding of the scientific principles associated with the analysis of dietary supplements in complex matrices.
  • Good knowledge in regulations including FDA 21CFR 111 and other GxP.
  • Effective writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good time and project management skills.
