Job Description

Do you have a passion for environmental, health and safety programs? Do you enjoy leading cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence in Safety? If given the opportunity, would you be able to drive safety improvements in compliance, demonstrating your knowledge as it relates to KPI’s and lower incident rates? If so, look no further than The Bountiful Company and our opening for an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for championing the EH&S function for one our packaging facilities Long Island, NY, which is a part of a growing network. In addition to overall input site EH&S sustainability initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities include supporting this high volume packaging facility via hands-on counsel, supervision, assessment, and implementation of:

  • Site EH&S Culture – Actively participates on Site Leadership Team and effectively leads, coaches, and develops operations line supervision to be effective EH&S leaders/coaches in their respective positions.
  • Support, coach and guide the global site leadership teams.
  • EH&S Performance – Partners with Site leadership team to develop Site SH&E key priorities, drivers, and activities with key performance indicators to drive Site EH&S performance improvement.
  • Compliance – Ensure our sites maintain continuous “audit ready” state of compliance with company EH&S policies and procedures as well as all applicable external regulatory requirements.
  • EH&S Strategies, Programs and Plans – Develops EH&S best-in-class programs, systems, and processes, including training and mentoring to establish clear procedures on EH&S measures and precautions.
  • Risk Assessment and Elimination – Leads the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes across our sites to ensure these are effective at identifying and mitigating hazards and are effectively communicated and understood by all affected employees.
  • Ensures investigation of all EH&S-related incidents utilizing NCE tools to drive to root cause and identify actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensures all actions to prevent recurrence are effectively implemented while also ensuring an effective injury case management process is fully implemented, well understood, and functioning as desired.
  • EH&S Capability Building – Develops Site EH&S talent through active support, coaching and feedback with the goal of developing talent that can move on to more challenging positions.
  • Liaison and technical expertise support – Provides technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific, engineering subject area or EH&S-related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in EH&S roles with the last position held as a Site SH&E leader and/or division, regional, or corporate safety and environmental experience within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Professional certifications in EH&S-related fields are considered beneficial and may include CIH, NEBOSH, CSP, CEM, etc.
  • Proven experience and a solid understanding of ISO 14001, OHSAS 45001, LEAN and TPM concepts issues and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions as it relates to building in prevention. 
  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations.
  • Solid technical understanding of EH&S issues and their relationship to production/engineering and job functions as it relates to building prevention. 
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence across a diverse range of people from Corporate /Division leadership to a factory floor associate.
  • Proven track record to drive sustainable organizational change.
  • Capacity to think both strategically and tactically and quickly flow across the two.
  • Strong demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be detailed and results-oriented.
  • Ability to communicate sophisticated regulatory and technical issues in lay terms.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to master other specialized software.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills.
