Job Description

The Controls Specialist will provide electrical controls troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs on manufacturing or packaging equipment in order to prevent malfunctions that could lead to costly repairs. This role will be responsible for evaluating and performing electrical control/software improvements to new and existing equipment to improve Quality, Reliability, Productivity, and Safety. They are responsible for adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) that are in effect assuring the quality and quantity of the product.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review specifications to plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures. Test all assemblies, installations, or repairs on electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures. Assemble and install electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and tools, to locate the cause of a problem.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting Control Cabinet; replace P.C. Boards, relays and input-output modules, VFDs and PIDs; Install and troubleshoot different indicators: Voltmeters, Tachometers, Totalizers, Counters, Timers and others; able to work and adjust transducers and indicators (4-20 ma)
  • Coordinate with Engineering resources on mechanical implementation of control systems
  • Uses Root Cause Analysis to investigate operational errors and recommends corrective action where needed for improved results
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting

  • Review standards and compliance requirements applicable to the electrical control systems, provide recommendations as required

  • Lead transformational projects and process improvement initiatives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Technical Diploma Preferred
  • 3- 5 years experience in an industrial manufacturing environment in Controls Engineering, Electrician, or Electro Mechanical Maintenance role
  • 1-3 years experience PLC design, repair, and/or implementation experience
  • Direct skills/experience with the following Allen-Bradley/Rockwell components and software:
    • CompactLogix PLC
    • MicroLogix 1400 PLC
    • PanelView Plus HM
    • PowerFlex Series Inverters
    • Kinetic Series Servos
    • RSLogix 5000 Software
  • Must be able to read blueprints, shop drawings, and generate rough sketches as needed. Ability to use electrical tools such as an oscilloscope and/or electrical test meter.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
